This was on the Epic LP from 1977 “Too Hot To Handle” released as Epic(PE 34761)written by Rod Temperton(who worked with Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, James Ingram, Patti Austin & countless others)He began his career with Heatwave before striking out on his own! Right now you’re digging the live version of the 1977 tune!

I love how he sings ‘too hot to hahn-dle’- it’s so cute! These boys are too, too bad- live and on record.

Incredible live performance!!! Those cats were definitely in shape to pull off those moves that they were doing, I always have liked this funky dance track from 1976, and after seeing this live performance, I like it even more now. Simply an outstanding 70’s dance/funk track from an equally outstanding, but under rated band, no questioning that fact!!

Sour Grapes? what ur saying is silly. The best musicians still know how to play an instrument.Technology has nothing to do with putting pen to paper and writing a song. What your are saying is as silly as an athlete playing the game as a kid sitting down on his butt and playing a video game. Just becuase they good a that video game doesn’t mean they actually are playing it. Aguy on a turntable spinning and scratching is not a musician. This is directed to iggypot

you cant be so sour grapes about technology winning the day man. the best musicians have learned to adapt to certain machines and programmes and understood how to translate say - piano playing ability, or guitar or drums - into computer language. i mean, thats just where music is at - sadly now - one or maybe two producer/composers sitting in a room sampling thier riffs and tweaking them out on programes. I DO feel that nothing can replace the community feeling of a band like ..say HEATWAVE !!!

    Excellent point….

You are right about 80’s being the end. I think the last great funk bank was Guy. But go back to the 30’s when technology 1st appeared. You could see those great musicians hone their craft right in front of the camera. Satchmo all the way to Maurice White. The thing about music, it can bring you up or tear u down. Right now it’s about what sells. and violence sells.

*Applause* I so agree with you now man… the 80s wasa time of innovation but the beginning of the end for the real musician. With computers and sampling, there was no need for the session musician or even the typical musician. Peeps like Madonna got popular whilst peeps like Joan Armatrading got less in demand. Today we have manufactured products who wouldn’t know the difference between 4/4 time and a semi quaver.

It’s called dumbing down the people. You talk to a kid today and they think these hip hoppers made all that music they rap over. But back in the day it was called mastering you instrument. I think taking music out of the classrooms had a lot to do with kids not learning how to play. It’s amazing but mediocre’ win the day now. I can’t wait until people find out that these kids are actually awful. It just goes to show you, people are followers.

What a fantastic, acrobatic live performance on that small stage and a special way of microphone usage… I wish I had been there…

I was born in 1987, but from my own research, I came upon Heatwave, and all the 70s music I could ever think of. I was raised on Earth, Wind, and Fire, Kool and the Gang, and many many others! Music today is almost all complete crap! Like Crunk?? So stupid! The real music died out when the 70s left! Ever since then, video killed the radio star, and everything has been an attempt at a carboncopy of the fanstastic music and atmosphere of the 70s! I just wish I experienced it firsthand!
